Shiatsu Diploma Upgrade

Having the latest Shiatsu qualification (Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies – HLT52215) enhances your ability to register as a practising member with associations such as STAA and ATMS.

Depending on which qualification you have previously attained, and your additional work experience and other qualifications, there is a pathway to bring yourself up to date.

At the Australian Shiatsu College, we will facilitate your content knowledge upgrade via our online learning management platform, allowing you to engage in this process no matter where you are in Australia.

Any in-person practical assessment will be facilitated on-site at our training facilities at the Ceres Learning Centre in East Brunswick, Melbourne.

Upgrade Pathway

There is some gap training for you to complete along with evidence of recent practice.

You will need to start practising and logging sessions to meet requirements (200 hours, 60 clients)

Enrollment in Zen/Classical/Barefoot Shiatsu to refresh your skills can be allocated towards your required hours/treatments

Our next intake for this is scheduled for Semester Two, 2023.

Recommended duration for completion is 6 months

You will be required to provide the following:

  • Up-to-date CV
  • Prior study transcripts
  • Current 1st Aid certificate
  • Language, Literacy, and Numeracy test
  • Submit a logbook with evidence of 60 treatments and 200 hours of practice in the past 5 years
  • Professional learning/CPD plan
  • Professional Biography

Assignments to be completed:

  • Cultural competency critical reflection
  • Safe Work Practice Quiz
  • Safe Work Practice Self Assessment
  • Safe Work Practice Hazards and Prioritising
  • Anatomy knowledge quiz
  • Physiology knowledge quiz
  • Legal & Ethical Assignment
  • Chronic Disease Case Study
  • Mental Health Case Study
  • Business strategy plan

You will need to treat an ASC trainer to demonstrate currency of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies skills and knowledge

Cost: $2500 (may vary based upon an individual's prior study and work experience outside of the Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies)

You will need to enrol in the Diploma to complete some subjects. Our next intake for this is scheduled for Semester One, 2023.

Recommended duration for completion is 12 months

You are eligible to apply for RPL for prior shiatsu study (CT/RPL can be considered if other qualifications are held eg Remedial massage)

You will be required to provide the following:

  • Up-to-date CV
  • Prior study transcripts
  • Current 1st Aid certificate
  • Language, Literacy, and Numeracy test
  • Submit a log book with evidence of 60 treatments and 200 hours of practice in the past 5 years.

Gap assessment tasks required:

  • Business strategy plan
  • Safe Work Practice Quiz
  • Safe Work Practice Self Assessment
  • Safe Work Practice Hazards and Prioritising

You will need to enrol in the following subjects/units of competency:

  • Anatomy & Physiology: (HLTAAP002/HLTAAP003) 
  • Interpersonal Dynamics: (CHCCOM006/CHCDIV001) 
  • Law Ethics & Networks (CHCLEG003/CHCPRP005) 
  • Clinical Supervision & Reflection (CHCPRP003/HLTSHU009)
  • Chronic Disease Care (CHCCCS001)
  • Mental Health Care (CHCMHS001)

You will need to participate in 2 supervised ASC clinics and to treat 3 ASC trainers to demonstrate currency of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies skills and knowledge
