Discover Purpose Through Healing arts
The Australian Shiatsu College (RTO Code: 3609) has provided quality education in Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies for 40 years. Our training programs are designed to help students develop both technical skills and professional purpose in the healing arts.
We offer theHLT52215 Diploma in Shiatsu & Oriental Therapies, our nationally recognised qualification, alongside a range of non-accredited short courses for personal and professional development. With our intensive class format we now also offer a pathway for shiatsu training Australia wide.
Your Professional Development Pathway – How to be a shiatsu therapist
Explore Zen Shiatsu Therapy
Begin your journey by exploring the foundations of Shiatsu and East Asian Medicine (also known as Traditional Chinese Medicine or Oriental Medicine) through our Short Courses.
In this initial phase, you’ll learn about the principles that underpin this practice, including meridian theory, yin and yang concepts, and the five elements. Through introductory lessons and practical classes in our Zen Shiatsu course, you’ll gain insight into how these traditional practices can be applied in a modern healthcare context.
This exploration phase helps you make an informed decision about pursuing further training with the Australian Shiatsu College. These options offer credit and articulation into our Diploma training.
Develop Professional Skills and Knowledge in Shiatsu Massage Therapy
During your studies in the HLT52215 Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies, you’ll develop comprehensive expertise and understanding required for professional practice.
This includes learning a range of Shiatsu massage techniques, understanding traditional diagnostics, the application of acupressure to tsubo (acupuncture points) and developing client assessment skills. You will also explore business management, studying anatomy and physiology, interpersonal communications skills at the same level as those trained to deliver professional remedial massage techniques.
If you already hold a Diploma of Remedial Massage or equivalent from another massage school, you may be eligible for our Recognition of Prior Learning pathway to recognise your existing training and experience in these foundational knowledge that all massage therapists use.
Our experienced educators provide structured learning experiences that balance theory and practice. Throughout this development phase, you’ll build your technical abilities while deepening your understanding of how Shiatsu can support client wellbeing.
Apply Techniques With Supervised Practice of Your Shiatsu Therapist Training
Practical application is essential to developing competence in Shiatsu therapy. In our learning environment, you’ll apply your developing skills through extensive supervised practice sessions. This includes working with fellow students and eventually providing treatments in our student clinic under qualified supervision.
This practical experience allows you to refine your techniques, develop your professional approach, and receive constructive feedback from experienced practitioners. The supervised practice component is designed to help you build confidence and competence in preparation for professional practice.
Achieve Your Qualification – Diploma of shiatsu and Oriental Therapies (HLT52215)
As you progress through all required units of competency in our nationally recognised diploma program, you’ll complete a range of assessments designed to verify your skills and knowledge. These assessments include practical demonstrations, case studies, written tasks, and supervised clinical practice.
Upon successful completion of all requirements, graduates receive nationally recognised certification and become a qualified Shiatsu massage practitioner. The Australian Shiatsu College provides support throughout this assessment process, with opportunities for additional practice and guidance to help students meet the required standards.
Apply Your Alternative Medicine Skills to Support Community Health
Graduates of the HLT52215 Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies have developed the skills and knowledge to work as Shiatsu practitioners. Many of our graduates establish private practices, work in integrated healthcare settings, or continue to advanced studies in complementary therapies.
The Australian Shiatsu College provides graduating students with information about professional associations, continuing education opportunities, and practice management considerations to establish their career as a Shiatsu massage practitioner.
